IMG’s Preparedness & Response to May 2026 Ebola Outbreak

We are closely monitoring the current Ebola outbreak affecting the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Uganda, and neighboring countries. The health and safety of our customers remain our highest priority.

Current Situation

On May 17, 2026, the U.S. Department of State issued a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” Advisory for the DRC, Uganda, and South Sudan (collectively referred to as the “Affected Region”).

As of May 19, 2026, the CDC reports:

  • 30+ confirmed cases and 500+ suspected cases in the DRC

  • 2 confirmed cases in Uganda

  • South Sudan and other neighboring countries have no confirmed cases at this time but are considered high risk due to proximity to affected areas

Please note that countries included in the Affected Region may change as the situation evolves and as government advisories are updated.

Guidance for Travelers

If You Are Currently in the Affected Region

We strongly recommend that you relocate to a safe location as soon as possible, following all local regulations and official guidance.

It is unsafe to be in or travel to an area experiencing an Ebola outbreak. Due to government restrictions and outbreak-control measures in the Affected Region and surrounding area, medical evacuation, hospital capacity, and medical treatment may not be available.

Additionally, U.S. government policies can change quickly during a public health emergency. Recent federal actions include temporary travel restrictions and enhanced screenings before entering or reentering the U.S.

If You Are Planning to Travel to the Affected Region

At this time, you should avoid all travel to the Affected Region. If you have upcoming travel plans, we strongly encourage you to postpone or reschedule your trip until conditions improve and official advisories are lifted.

Brokers and distribution partners are also advised to communicate this guidance to any individuals or groups considering traveling to the region.

Insurance Coverage & Assistance Information

If your travel to the Affected Region occurred before the Level 4 Travel Advisory was issued on May 17, 2026, your IMG insurance plan will continue to provide eligible medical benefits according to the terms and conditions of your policy if such services are available. IMG assistance services clients will continue to be serviced via the terms of their contract and standard operating procedures.

Please note, access to care may be significantly limited due to local conditions.

Operational Updates

Effective immediately, countries in the Affected Region have been removed from availability on IMG’s website and purchase APIs.

Our Commitment

Your health and safety are very important to us, and we want to make sure you have clear information before making any travel decisions. If you have any questions or require any assistance, please contact us at +1.317.655.4500.
