Trip Cancellation Benefit

One of the most common reasons for purchasing travel insurance is to protect your financial investment in the event you have to cancel your trip. It’s impossible to know what the future holds, and there is always a possibility the unexpected can get in the way of originally planned travels. Having travel insurance with a trip cancellation benefit can help you to avoid losing the money you’ve invested in a trip you can no longer take.

IMG iTravelInsured travel protection plans are designed to protect you and your prepaid, non-refundable trip expenses for multiple covered reasons that result in you having to cancel your trip. Maybe you get sick or have a death in the family before you leave and can’t travel. Maybe there is a hurricane headed straight for your tropical destination. Or maybe you just lost your job and can no longer afford to travel.

Common Covered Reasons Why You May Have to Cancel Your Trip

IMG’s travel insurance offers several benefits to protect you and your trip expenses from the unexpected. While nobody wants to plan a trip they won’t be able to go on, it is important to consider having a travel protection plan in the event you are forced to cancel a trip. By having an iTravelInsured travel protection plan, you could be reimbursed for up to 100% of your non-refundable trip cost in the event you have to cancel your trip for a covered reason. Below are some of the most common covered reasons for cancelling a trip when your plan includes trip cancellation benefits.

Covered Trip Cancellation Reasons

Sickness/Injury/Death

Getting sick or injured is something you can try to avoid at all costs but can still happen right before you are about to leave town for a planned trip or vacation. With a plan that has trip cancellation benefit, you can be reimbursed for your prepaid, non-refundable trip expenses if you need to cancel your trip due to a covered sickness or injury. Your sickness or injury must occur before you leave for your trip, you must be examined and treated by a physician prior to canceling, and a physician must certify that your medical restrictions are so disabling as to cause you to cancel your trip. This benefit also applies in the event that your family member, traveling companion, or child caregiver becomes sick, injured, or dies prior to your scheduled departure date.

Hurricanes

We all dream of escaping to a warm, tropical destination, but what do you do when you realize a hurricane is barreling straight toward the coast you were going to be relaxing on for a week straight? By purchasing a travel protection plan prior to the hurricane being a named storm, the money you’ve invested in your travels is protected if your scheduled trip departure city or scheduled destination is under a hurricane warning or hurricane watch as issued by the NOAA Hurricane Center within 24 hours of your scheduled departure date. Cancellation of your trip must occur more than fourteen days following your effective date of coverage for Trip Cancellation.

Job Loss

Losing a job can be an incredibly stressful and unpredictable financial experience. If you have a planned trip and you purchased a travel protection plan prior to losing your job, getting reimbursed some of the money you invested in your trip may help relieve some financial stress. With iTravelInsured travel protection plans, if you or your traveling companion are involuntarily terminated or laid off and received a termination notice at least fourteen days after your trip cancellation effective date and have been an active employee with the same employer for at least a year, you can be reimbursed.

Pregnancy

You and your significant other could have planned a romantic getaway together only to find out shortly before you are scheduled to leave that you are expecting a baby. Maybe you no longer feel comfortable traveling, and you wish to cancel your trip. As long as the date of conception, as verified by medical records, occurred after your effective date for trip cancellation, you can be reimbursed up to the maximum benefit amount shown in your plan’s Schedule of Benefits for your unused, prepaid, non-refundable trip costs. Please note that IMG’s iTravelInsured Travel Lite plan only covers cancellations due to complications of pregnancy.

Plus More

There are several other covered reasons for why you may have to cancel your trip. Some of these include being in a traffic accident while en route to your destination, being called to active military duty or emergency service, you are required to work during your trip, inclement weather, and many others. Make sure to check your plan document for the complete list of covered reasons for trip cancellation.
